    Weekly Update
by Grant Reilly - Sunday, 17 September 2017, 3:31 PM

    Dear Families,

Thank you to all the parents who came out to our first PAC meeting last Monday. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We will have our first fire drills this week. These drills can be a little frightening for our youngest students who have never experienced them before. Teachers will be talking with our kids about what the fire drill looks and sounds like to help prepare our kids.

Here are some reminders for this upcoming week.

    1. The first cross country run of the year takes place Tuesday at MacArthur Island after school. Cross country runners please be sure to get your permission slip forms to Mr. Scott by tomorrow.

    2. Our Welcome Back BBQ is Wednesday evening. This wonderful event organized by our PAC starts at 5 in the evening and runs until 7. If you are able to help out as a volunteer please call the school and school staff will direct you to a PAC member. We hope to see everyone out Wednesday evening.

    3. On Thursday, Science World will be here to present to our students in the afternoon.

    4. Friday is a non-instructional day and the school will be closed for students.

    Have an outstanding week!

    Mr. Reilly

    Weekly Update - September 10
by Grant Reilly - Sunday, 10 September 2017, 1:36 PM

    Dear Families,

Thank you for a wonderful first week back! I really appreciate your ongoing support to best serve your kids in our school.  As you have probably heard, elementary schools in the Kamloops are being directed to keep students inside when the air quality index measures 7 or higher. Hopefully those days will be few and far between.

Here are some reminders for this upcoming week.

    1. Our first PAC meeting of the year is on Monday. The meeting starts at 6:30 and is held in the school’s library. Childminding is available. Our PAC is always looking for more people to come out to meetings and help volunteer to plan and run events. If you can make it, please come out Monday evening!

    2. Wednesday is the first full day for our Kindergarten students.

    3. Students will have brought or will be bringing home a variety of different forms that will need your attention. Please be on the lookout for these papers and get them back to the school as soon as you can.

    Upcoming Events:

    1. The first cross country run of the year is next Tuesday, September 19th at MacArthur Island, hosted by OLPH.

    2. Our school’s Welcome Back/Open House BBQ will be Wednesday, September 20th from 5 to 7 pm.

    3. Science World will be at our school, next Thursday, September 21st to teach our students about the world of forces.

    Have an excellent week!

    Weekly Update
by Grant Reilly - Monday, 4 September 2017, 2:17 PM

    Dear Families,

On behalf of our amazing staff at Arthur Stevenson, I would like to welcome all families, both new and returning, to our wonderful school. Each week I provide a short email updating families of upcoming events and important dates.

Here are your updates for the first week of the 2017.18 school year.

    1. First day of school for students in grades 1 to 7 is tomorrow, Tuesday (5th). School opens at 10:30 and students are dismissed at 12:00. Students will be returning to their teacher from last year.

    2. Wednesday is the first full school day for students in grades 1 to 7. Classes start at 8:30 and students are dismissed at 2:30. Lunch is from 11:50 to 12:50, with students playing first and then coming into eat at 12:30.

    3. Staff will place students into grade groupings for Wednesday and Thursday. During these days, students will spend time learning about our school’s behaviour matrix (R.O.C.K.S.) and working on how to recognize and regulate their emotions and feelings using the Zones of Regulation program (this is one of our school’s learning goals).

    4. We anticipate needing more time than usual this year to finalize our classrooms due to a large volume of students coming into our school community during the summer. Our hope is to have students finalized into their classrooms by Monday, September 11th, however it could definitely take a few days longer).

    5. Our incoming Kindergarten students will start their individualized gradual entry to school on either Wednesday or Thursday and continue until early next week. The first full day of Kindergarten will be Wednesday, Sept. 13th.

    6. Our first school Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting is Monday, September 11th at 6:30 in our school library. Childminding is available.

Have a fabulous week and I look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces tomorrow!

    First Week Back!
by Grant Reilly - Friday, 1 September 2017, 2:56 PM

    Dear Families,

Greetings from Arthur Stevenson Elementary. As I type I don't see any smoke out my office window, so hopefully it stays away for good. I also hope that everyone enjoyed a safe summer and you had the opportunity to spend some time with friends and family and laughed often.

    Some information for next week:

The school will open its doors to students at 10:30 on Tuesday. This first day is for students in grades 1 to 7 only, as students coming into Kindergarten have an individualized gradual entry plan. On Tuesday, students will return to their classroom teacher from last year. All new students to our building will meet in the library where we will have teachers ready to tour kids around our school. Students will be dismissed at 12 on Tuesday, so please be sure to make appropriate arrangements. We have had a very healthy influx of new students and families into our school community. This, coupled with the unknown of who might have moved away, always presents a challenge for schools at the start of the year. This year is no exception and we will ask for your patience as we will most likely take the first week before classroom placements are finalized.

Have a wonderful last long weekend of Summer and see you Tuesday!

    Mr. Reilly

    Kids Plus Accident Insurance
by Grant Reilly - Friday, 1 September 2017, 8:47 AM

    Dear Families

    Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance

For your convenience, we’ve made arrangements for families to voluntarily purchase student accident insurance through the Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance program, underwritten by Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc (iA Financial Group).

Kids Plus™ Accident Insurance offers protection against the unexpected costs of injury from accidents, and is especially valuable for families who:

    • do not have medical or dental plans,
    • have limited plans, as it may help supplement health and dental benefits, or
    • have active children who enjoy sports and outdoor activities.
