    Dear Families,

Here are some reminders and information for this week.

Our wonderful PAC is organizing a used book sale scheduled for the middle of February. The proceeds of the book sale will go directly to the school’s library to purchase new books. PAC is asking all of our parents to bring any books that are still in great condition into the school and leave them in the bin outside the gym. This would include children’s books, young adult/teen books and books that you read yourself. Any support you can give is greatly appreciated.

A reminder to parents to please not pick up and drop off your kids in our staff parking lot. There is a lot of congestion in the morning and afternoon in the staff parking lot, with both cars and kids moving in the area, and we want to provide as safe a space as we can during these times.

Here are some reminders for this upcoming week:

    1. Foundation Skills Assessments begin this week for students in grades 4 and 7. All students are expected to participate in these assessments.

    2. On Tuesday we will host our last Art Starts performance of the school year at 11:00 am.

    3. Basketball league play begins this week. On Tuesday, our Tier 1 Boys play at Marion Schilling and our Tier 2 Boys play at home.

    4. On Wednesday, our Tier 3 Boys play at home.

    5. On Thursday, our Tier 1 Girls play at Westmount and our Tier 2 Girls play at Ske’lep.

    6. Friday is a non-instructional day, so the school is closed for students. School staff will be learning more about the new curriculum, specifically, how to assess students’ core competencies.

Have a tremendous week, and hey, I don’t think it is going to be -34 or whatever this week, so yahoo!

    Dear Families,

Welcome back! I trust you had a relaxing, fun-filled Winter break.

Here are some reminders for this upcoming week:

    1. Basketball tryouts will take place this week for both boys and girls in the intermediate grades. If you have a child interested in playing basketball this year, please be sure they have appropriate gym clothing, including shoes at school on Tuesday.

    2. All students will be participating in a cardboard design activity during the final week of January. If you have leftover cardboard from the break/holidays please bring it into the school and deliver it to your child’s teacher.

    3. Students from Ms. Zelisko’s, Mrs. Hawkings’, and Ms. McLean’s classes are off skating this Friday.

    4. The cold weather left us over the break but it has returned, just in time for the return of school. Please be sure that your child wears appropriate warm winter clothing to school. As before, students will be expected to go outside during recess and lunch, unless temperatures dip below -12 celsius.

    Have an excellent week!

    Dear Families,

A couple of reminders from PAC.

    1. Thanks for supporting the PAC classroom basket fundraiser by selling raffle tickets. All advance tickets need to be returned to the school on Monday. Please self-deposit the tickets into the PAC bin at the school’s main entrance. The draw for the classroom raffle baskets will take place after the 6:00 pm performance of the Winter Concert, on Wednesday.

    3. The PAC is still looking for volunteers to sell raffle tickets before both the afternoon and evening performances of the Winter Concert. If you are available, please contact Kerrie Fediuk at 250.318.9525.

Here are some reminders for this upcoming week:

    1. The third Art Starts performance at our school this year will take place Monday afternoon.

    2. Our Winter Concert, The Best Gift Ever, is scheduled for Wednesday. There are two performances. The afternoon performance starts at 1:00 and the evening performance begins at 6:00. As in the past, seats at the evening performance fill up quickly, which is why we host an afternoon performance as well. There are usually good seats available during the afternoon performance. A reminder to donate an item to the food bank as your admission to the concert.

    3. Ms. Day’s, Mr. Styles’, and Mr. Scott’s classes are off skating Friday morning.

    4. Friday is the last day before the Winter Break. Please be advised that students return to school on Tuesday, January 3 after the break this year.

On behalf of the amazing staff at Arthur Stevenson, I would like to wish you all a restful, happy and humorous Winter Break filled with family and friends. Thank you for your support this year.
