    Hello Families,

Thank you to our amazing PAC for hosting a super fun Welcome Back BBQ last Thursday. It was great to see so many families!

Here are some reminders for this week:

    1. Tuesday morning is Raise-a-Reader in Kamloops. Our school will have a parent volunteering to sell newspapers to families as kids are dropped off at school in the morning. Please donate what you can. All proceeds go to Literacy programs in the Kamloops area.

    2. Our Terry Fox Run is Tuesday afternoon starting at 1:45. Please join us if you can, as it is always helpful to have lots of adult eyes available when 300 students are going for a run. Please ensure that you have signed your child's walking permission slip to ensure your child can participate in the run. As well, we are asking families to bring in a "Toonie for Terry" if possible. All proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation.

    3. On Wednesday we hold our Cross Country Run at Westsyde Centennial Park, starting at 3:15. If you are able to help out, please let Mrs. Hawkings or Mr. Scott know.

    4. On Thursday and Friday, students will be dismissed at 12:30 as both these days are early closure days to accommodate parent teacher meetings. If you have not heard from your child's teacher, please contact your child's teacher to organize a meeting. Please note that this meeting is more of a meet and greet in which teachers can talk about how your child is settling in to classroom routines and what kind of program/learning your child will be involved in this year.

    5. We will have our September Recognition Assembly at 8:45 Friday morning. Classroom teachers will be in contact with the parents of students being recognized.

    Have a great week!

    Hello Families,

This email is replacing my Sunday evening synrevoice to families. Thank you to those families who have already returned their verification and technology usage forms. If you have yet to do this, please try to get the forms back to the school as soon as possible. On Tuesday, Mr. Styles’ and Mr. Scott’s students are off to McQueen Lake for the day. On Wednesday we will have our first lockdown drill of the year. These drills, just like fire drills, are done to ensure the safety of staff and students in the event of an emergency. Our PAC organized Open House is Thursday evening. The Open House starts at 5 and runs until 7. There will be food, snacks and bouncy castles! As well, there will be different sizes of Arthur Stevenson’s Cobra clothing, so parents can check sizes before placing an order. On Friday there is no school for students as this day is a non-instructional day. Arthur Stevenson staff will be learning more about project-based learning, inquiry and students' critical thinking on Friday.

    Have a fantastic week!

    Synrevoice Change
by Grant Reilly - Friday, 16 September 2016, 4:05 PM

The following email went to families this afternoon:

    Hi Parents and Guardians,

This email is being sent to inform you that I will no longer be able to send out weekly synrevoice messages every Sunday late afternoon from this date forward. The School District wants the Synrevoice system to be used for emergency situations only, as it was initially intended, and not sa a weekly communication tool as it has been used at Arthur Stevenson the last few years.

As a result, there will no longer be a phone message on Sundays. However, I will post a weekly update on the website and email the message to families using the email addresses the school has on file.

    Sunday Evening Synrevoice
by Grant Reilly - Sunday, 11 September 2016, 12:24 PM

Good evening families. This is Grant Reilly, principal of Arthur Stevenson Elementary. Thank you to contributing to a wonderful first week back. It was terrific to see all of our students’ grins and smiles last week. We were allocated an additional teacher late Friday morning, so I am happy to report that all classes are finalized and students will remain in their present classes. Many thanks for your patience with this process. On Monday the first PAC meeting of the year will take place at 6:30 in our school Library. This is an important meeting with many plans being set out for the school year, so please attend if you can. As always, childminding will be available. Early this week, the school will send out verification forms. Please take the time to check these forms over, especially in regards to your email addresses, as individual teachers and myself use email as a form of communicating with our parent community. As well, a second school calendar will go home this week. Please disregard the one that came home last week, as there were errors with some of the dates. The corrected calendar is also on our school website. Cross country runners need to get their permission slip forms into Mr. Scott by Tuesday, as the first race of the year is Wednesday. Help us ensure a safe school community by not parking along the school fence on Bank Road close to the bike racks during school drop off and pick up. This area becomes too congested with our kids getting their bikes, and it becomes impossible to see if students are walking behind your vehicle. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Have a tremendous week!

    Monday Evening Synrevoice
by Grant Reilly - Monday, 5 September 2016, 11:49 AM

Good evening families. This is Grant Reilly, principal of Arthur Stevenson Elementary. I am very pleased to be welcoming back our students and parents for a new year of school. Tomorrow is the first day for students enrolled in grades 1 to 7. Tomorrow is a short day. School starts at 10:30 and the students are dismissed at 12:00. Students need to report to their classrooms from last year tomorrow, while students new to our school should go to the library. Students entering into Kindergarten this year follow an individual gradual entry schedule. If you are unsure of your kindergarten child’s gradual entry schedule, please contact the school. Wednesday is the first full day of the school year. The school opens at 8:20, classes begin at 8:30 and students are dismissed at 2:30. On Wednesday, students will be placed into grade groupings with similar age classmates and review expectations at Arthur Stevenson using our ROCKS matrix and the Zones of Regulation Program. These groupings are not final as class placements have not been finalized. There is currently more students enrolled than we have spots for at our school. As a result, we will not have students placed into their classrooms as quickly as we did last year. We are hoping to have class placements finalized by Friday, as we should know by then if our school qualifies for an additional teacher. To help speed up this process it is very important for students to be in attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday so that staff can confirm numbers as soon as possible. Staff is very much looking forward to welcoming both our new and returning students to Arthur Stevenson tomorrow!

    Have a great week!
